Our firm has a significant experience in design of grate-fired combustion plants. The amount of heat exchanged through the furnace walls is determined depending on the energy content of the biomasses used as fuel. Our models aims at defining the optimal adiabatic grade of the furnace. Many intermediate solutions are possible between two extremes represented by the tube wall, non adiabatic furnace and the fully refractory lined, adiabatic one, both illustrated below.

Non adiabatic furnaces

A non adiabatic, tube-wall furnace is preferred when processing combustibles with high energy content. This allows the integration of boiler into the furnace. These furnaces are less sensitive to the problem of controlling temperature in combustion chamber, cooled by the water naturally circulating in the walls tubes. Given the low fumes specific production, these furnaces have the best energetic performances. Highly efficient, these furnace are not flexible to variations in combustible energy content.



Adiabatic furnaces

Furnaces completely lined with refractory materials, to process materials with low energy content or high moisture. The cooling of combustion chamber is obtained by blowing air. This worsens energetic yield, increasing fumes generation. Our original design solves this problem recirculating exhaust fumes instead. This way the same performances of a non adiabatic system can be attained.
