Assessment of the solar thermal input to the electricity's amount supplied by biomass plant

ECOSESTO SpA  appointed W.T.E. to assess the contribute of solar heat supplied to a conventional Rankine cycle in terms of delivered electric energy .

A proper evaluation was required in order to obtain the corresponding fee from GSE, Italian energy Authority.

Considering the inertion of solar heat at lower  temperature than those used in biomass conventional cycle, an entropy analysis of the process was a necessary step in order to evaluate the actual contribute.

A reliable evaluation allowed further estimation about the pro-quota energy consumption of common auxiliaries, a major disputed point with GSE.

The methodology of entropic analysis adopted was innovative and has been presented to GSE as a different and more appropriate way to energy estimate in case of inlet heat in thermos-electric cycle at different temperature levels.

Main characteristics of the plant: boiler MCR 49 MWth; maximum gross electrical energy deliverable 16.5 MWe; solar thermal power 6.6 MWth.
